Many fishermen and farmers’ organizations in Mangalore have taken umbrage at a move by the Union government to sign a free-trade agreement with Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). 
Scores of mechanised fishing boats and crafts blockaded the shipping channel at Fort Kochi on Monday as a show of protest against the export-import agreement India has signed with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). 
The European Union is reportedly open to negotiations for the possible lowering of tariffs or even granting duty-free treatment for canned tuna exports from the Philippines and other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations under a proposed free trade agreement with the 10-nation regional bloc.
Thai Union urges govt to pursue FTA with EU

Thailand’s leading canned and seafood exporter, Thai Union Frozen Products, has urged the government to strengthen exporters’ competitiveness by going ahead with bilateral free-trade negotiations with the European Union.
