China has made full preparations to join the CPTPP: MOFCOM
In response to a question about the status of China’s application ahead of the 9th Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Australia in the second half of this year, Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) spokesperson He Yadong said on Thursday that since officially applying to join the CPTPP in September 2021, China has conducted an in-depth analysis and assessment of the agreement’s provisions.
China has prepared market access offers in areas such as goods trade, services, investment, and government procurement, and has engaged in extensive exchanges with CPTPP members to fully demonstrate its determination, capacity, and concrete actions to meet the agreement’s high standards.
He noted that China has also carried out pilot reforms in eligible pilot free trade zones and free trade ports, aligning with CPTPP-related rules. "China is fully prepared to join the agreement," He said.
He said China will proactively align with the CPTPP and other high-standard international economic and trade rules, and steadily expand institutional opening-up. At the same time, China will continue in-depth communication with CPTPP members in accordance with relevant procedures to actively advance the accession process.
"We hope CPTPP members will accelerate China’s accession and take concrete steps to support multilateralism and free trade, injecting greater certainty and momentum into global economic development," he added.
