ECVC Analysis of the impact of EU-Mercosur Free Trade Agreement on farmers June 2025
Despite promises to listen to farmers and take action to tackle the crises of prices and generational renewal in the farming sector, EU and national government decision makers try to force the closure of the EU-Mercosur Free Trade agreement. This Free Trade agreement will have disastrous consequences for farmers, driving down prices through unfair competition and further squeezing farmers until they leave the profession. It will have enormous, localised impacts that the EU have failed to assess, instead choosing to use farmers as a bargaining chip for the profit and benefit of other industries.
However, food is a human right, not a commodity. Farmers’ work is vital not only to feed populations but also to improve biodiversity, revitalise rural areas, and protect the environment. Farmers across the board are against this FTA. Read the publication in the sidebar to understand the true impact the FTA will have on these farmers and our food systems.
