EU and Chile complete third round of trade negotiations

Negotiators met in Brussels from 28 May to 1 June for the 3rd round of negotiations for a new, modernised trade agreement between the EU and Chile.

Over the course of the round the negotiating teams discussed all the issues covered by the agreement, such as market access for goods, services and investment, technical barriers to trade, intellectual property rights, including geographical indications, competition and subsidies, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, trade and sustainable development, as well as trade and gender.

Talks were held in a constructive spirit, and there was good progress made in most areas of the negotiations. The EU tabled texts for this round on sanitary and phytosanitary measures, trade and gender equality and trade and sustainable development.

As usual, a report on the results of the round and the new texts tabled by the EU will be published on the DG Trade website shortly.

The EU and the Chilean Chief negotiators also held an information session with European civil society located in Brussels on Tuesday 29 May 2018.
