Hungarian farmers join protest against EU-Mercosur trade deal
Farmers representing the Nat’l Agriculture Chamber (NAK) and professional association Magosz joined a protest against the EU’s free trade deal with South America’s Mercosur bloc in Strasbourg on Tuesday, NAK said.
The farmers joined their counterparts from a number of other EU member states and some 4,000 people representing farm organizations in France, NAK said.
The EU-Mercosur deal would allow loosely regulated farm imports from South American countries into the EU, putting local food security at risk, it added.
The farmers also protested efforts to reshape the EU’s common agricultural policy that would cut resources for farmers, NAK said.
