New negotiations begin on Chinese-U.S. investment treaty

Beijing, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) — Chinese and U.S. representatives are beginning another round of negotiations here today in this capital on a bilateral investment treaty, said the Commerce Ministry.

These conversations began in 2008 and at this, the thirteenth five-day meeting, topics central to the treaty’s text will be discussed, say spokespersons for the Chinese ministry.

The parties began their analysis of the documents for the future treaty at their eleventh round of negotiations held this year, and in March they were reviewed again in Washington, at the twelfth bilateral meeting for such a purpose.

The understandings expressed at these negotiations have to do with a mutual opening of sectors of interest for investment by each country, the protection and acceleration of investments in both directions, and promoting the development of economic and trade connections between China and the United States.
