US ratifies DR not on board for DR-CAFTA in January

Santo Domingo.- The United States ratified implementation of the Free Trade Agreement as of January 1st, 2006 with the sole inclusion of El Salvador and Honduras, since these were the only countries that met all requirements by the set deadline.
The Representative for US Trade (USTR) reiterated that the DR-CAFTA will initiate next January with the countries that have put into place all necessary legal and institutional reforms.
Acoording to official sources, the US government’s decision was notified to all seven countries involved.
Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Nicaragua have yet to make changes to various laws, including the property law, and updates on the Labor Regulations and environmental standards.
