18th round of TPP negotiations to be held in Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) — The 18th Round of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Negotiations will be held from July 15 – 25, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Negotiators from the 11 TPP member countries will convene with the objective of meeting goals set by the TPP Leaders to complete negotiations by year-end.

As in previous rounds, a dedicated half-day programme for stakeholders has been arranged on July 20, according to a media statement from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) here, today.

MITI said the objective of the programme is to allow stakeholders to present their views and concerns.

Since registration opened two weeks ago on the MITI website, more than 180 stakeholders, including 51 from Malaysia and representing different interest groups have registered for this session.

At the end of the stakeholder programme, the chief negotiators of all TPP countries will brief those concerned on the status of negotiations, as well as entertain relevant questions.

The 18th round will also be the first time Japan is participating in the negotiations.

The TPP is an on-going multilateral negotiation involving Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam.
