ASEAN FTA: CM demands apology from Union ministers

By Staff writer

26 October 2009

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 26 (PTI) Accusing Union ministers from Kerala and Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy of "misleading" the public on the Free Trade Agreement with ASEAN countries, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today demanded an apology from them.

"Chandy and Union ministers misled public by saying there was a ’protective negative list’ of agricultural products of the state, whereas media persons who had accompanied Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the ASEAN summit in Thailand had reported that the promise of negative list was incorrect," he said in a statement here.

The ASEAN countries had so far not recognised the negative list and it would not be possible now as the agreement had already been signed, he said.
