Chile, Peru to start FTA negotiations in January

SANTIAGO, Dec. 11 (Xinhuanet) — Chile and Peru will start negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) in January, local press cited Chilean Foreign Minister Ignacio Walker as saying on Saturday.
Walker made an official visit to Peru after participation in the 3rd South American Summit in Cusco, Peru. During his stay in Peru which concluded Friday, Walker and his Peruvian counterpart Manuel Rodriguez made crucial advances in bilateral relations, thereports said.
They said on Jan. 12, 2005, the timetable of the FTA negotiations will be formally disclosed.
The two countries also agreed to exempt entry visas for their tourists and signed an agreement on cooperation and mutual help indisaster prevention and management, the reports said.
