CIS FTA effective for Kyrgyzstan from 12 January 2014

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) - The CIS Free Trade Agreement will come into effect for Kyrgyzstan on 12 January 2014, BelTA learnt from the legal department of the CIS Executive Committee.

“On 13 December 2013 the CIS Executive Committee deposited a note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic about the fulfillment by the Kyrgyz Republic of national procedures required for the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement signed in St. Petersburg on 18 October 2011. In line with Article 22, the aforementioned agreement takes effect for Kyrgyzstan on 12 January 2014,” reads the message of the department.

The Free Trade Agreement was signed by the heads of government of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine in St. Petersburg on 18 October 2011. The instrument is aimed at securing free trade between the states which are parties to the agreement. The treaty has been ratified and is currently in effect for Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. Tajikistan is close to finishing the ratification procedure. The CIS member states which signed a protocol of applying the CIS Free Trade Agreement between its signatories and Uzbekistan on 31 May 2013 are currently carrying out national procedures in order to secure its coming into effect.
