Costa Rica to Protest FTA with US

San Jose, Sep 30 2007 (Prensa Latina) — Representatives of several Costa Rican sectors will take part in a mass demonstration in this capital on Sunday in rejection to the free trade agreement with the US, which will be put to the vote on October 17.

"We will stage one of the biggest protests in the history of our country," said the leader of the Patriotic Movement for No on Free Trade Agreement

Carrying banners and Chatting slogans against that agreement, protesters will walk along Paseo Colon avenue, in a march which is expected to be bigger than the one carried out last February 26, and that will be attended by students, unionists, farmers, politicians, among representatives of other Costa Rican sectors.

Leaders of the Patriotic Movement and bishop Ignacio Trejos will be among the main speakers at an act scheduled for 11:30 am on Sunday.

Monsignor Trejos is in the list of the 10 priests who have expressed their rejection to the free trade agreement among Central America, Dominican Republic and the US.
