Denounce chaos in prices

Santo Domingo.- National Merchants and Entrepreneurs Federation (FENACER) president Antonio Cruz assured today that there is generalized disarray throughout the country, with initial implementation of the tax reform, and requested from the government to reconsider enforcing it as of next July.

Cruz asked the government to act sensibly during this period and stated that the situation is so worrying that FENACER’s board of directors is meeting in open session to discuss and analyze these events.

He assured that the Dominican population will not withstand that the Government take advantage and impose taxes six months in advance before the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) takes place.

“There is generalized disarray and merchants are desperate,” affirmed Cruz.

The merchant and entrepreneur said that if the FTA was postponed till July, then the tax reform must not be applied yet, “because that would be duplicating taxes to the people.”

He underscored that salaries earned by Dominican workers and employees cannot withstand taxes six months before entering the FTA.

Cruz said that many merchants do not even know which products should be taxed.
