Georgia, UAE launch first round of free trade talks

Georgia and the United Arab Emirates have launched the first round of talks for establishing a free trade agreement between them as part of a visit of UAE officials in capital Tbilisi, the Georgian ministry of economy announced on Tuesday.

Deputy economy minister Genadi Arveladze, who heads the group of negotiators from the Georgian side, said once the deal was reached Georgian producers will gain access to a market of 10 million consumers with "high purchasing power".

The two countries originally signed an agreement on starting free trade negotiations during Dubai Expo 2020. An agreement on visa-free travel between Georgia and the UAE was reached in June this year.
