India-Japan CEPA on the anvil

NEW DELHI, Aug. 8: An India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), covering trade and investment services, is at an advanced stage of negotiations between the two countries.
The second round of negotiations to finalise the agreement, designed to facilitate and deepen economic cooperation between the two countries, will take place between the representatives of the two nations in September this year, former secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Mr Ajay Dua, today indicated at a seminar on “Doing Business in Japan.”
The seminar was organised by the PHD Chamber jointly with DIPP, the government and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO).
Mr Dua said by September, a major support programme for building the western India industrial corridor with Japanese assistance would be rolled out.
This would help increase inflow of Japanese investment into India, particularly in sectors such as roads, airports, ports and logistics. By next year, the Japanese investment in India was expected to touch $2 billion annually, he added.
