Indonesia And Chile Are Exploring Free Trade Agreement Possibilities Between The Two Countries

Jakarta (VOI-News) - To meet the interest of Chile to become a bridge between Asia-Pacific markets including Indonesian and South American, especially Latin America markets near to the Atlantic ocean, this time, Indonesia and Chile are discussing the possibility of free trade agreements of both countries. That was said by Economics Function / Third Secretary to the Indonesian Embassy in Santiago, Chile, FEBRIZKI BAGJA MUKTI to the Voice of Indonesia in the department of foreign affairs office, Jakarta today. He said that in reality, Chile’s desire is an opportunity for Indonesia to be able to increase its export to the Latin American regions. According to him, Indonesian trade volume to Chile reached nearly 500 million U.S. dollars each year after Thailand. While the trade value is not actually reflect the potential and there are many things that can be developed and improved in the future.

"actually Indonesia is Chilean commerce associate number two in the ASEAN after Thailand. The Trade volume, we are still in the range of almost 500 million dollars per year, but is not reflecting the actual potential, there are many can be extracted and may be with the FTA that the trade volume increase, trade barriers can come down and expected to be of mutual benefit both parties", he explained.

Asked about the challenge of trade cooperation of the two countries, FEBRIZKI BAGJA MUKTI admitted the challenge is about no direct transportation. Besides, the problem is in different of time and language.
