International signature campaign against EFTA FTAs

Todas las versiones de este artículo: [English] [Español]

Berne Declaration, 11 June 2007

Dear All, We need your support!

Also the member states from the European Free Trade Association EFTA (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland) are increasingly negotiating bilateral free trade agreements with developing countries. In 2007, they strive to enter into negotiations with Peru, Colombia, India and Indonesia. Earlier agreements with countries like Mexico, Chile, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories and Morocco have shown that these agreements go even further than the WTO agreements, especially in terms of patents for seeds and medicine, but also for investments, the services sector and industrial goods.

Therefore we - the undersigned civil society organizations - would like to write a joint letter to the EFTA trade ministers as well as to all the trade ministers of the four concerned countries (Peru, Colombia, India and Indonesia) signed by the civil society organizations in these concerned countries (EFTA states, Peru, Colombia, India and Indonesia) and supported by organizations around the world. The ministers will meet on 28 June for an EFTA ministerial conference.

To build up more pressure we need as many signatures as possible. Therefore we would be happy if your organisation could sign the enclosed letter. And please do spread this letter to other organizations you know, especially also in the concerned countries.

Please send your signatures, that means the name of your organization and your country, as soon as possible to trade@evb.ch (Marianne Hochuli) with the remark «support for EFTA-Letter». We need your signatures latest by 18 june.

We thank you for contributing to mobilize against the free trade agreements.

In solidarity and with best regards,

Marianne Hochuli, The Berne Declaration, Switzerland
