Japanese delegation arrives in February to evaluate start of FTA with Peru
Lima, Jan. 30 2009 (ANDINA).— In the first two weeks of February, an official Japanese delegation will arrive in Peru to evaluate the beginning and modalities of a possible Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between both countries, Peru’s ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported.
Japan is the fourth trade partner of the country in regard to the total Peruvian exports.
“We represent 0.38 percent of the Japanese market, so we have many possibilities of expanding Peruvian exports in their consumption. This is the reason why there won’t be big sensibilities, instead opportunities on this market", said the head of Mincetur, Mercedes Aráoz.
She said that a bilateral agreement will boost the non-traditional exports, more even because there is great interest of some Japanese investors to enter profitable segments of market as the agro-industry.
Japan has a population of 128 million people with a GDP per capita of 34,000 dollars, which reflects a high purchasing power of Japaneses.
