Kituyi challenges COMESA on Customs Union

Trade and Industry Minister Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi has asked the COMESA ministerial taskforce to hasten implementation of the regional customs union to achieve the free trading within member-countries.
Dr. Kituyi said delayed implementation of the customs union had limited the benefits of cross border trade and investment in the region.
Kituyi said Kenya trades more with Comesa countries than other markets and that Comesa countries are addressing the trading constraints that have impeded progress within its members.
Speaking in Nairobi the minister further said COMESA countries will implement a number of measures so as to ensure that the Customs Unions is launched in 2008.
