Pakistan, Malaysia talks on FTA get underway

KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia): The 2nd round of negotiations on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Malaysia commenced at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday.

The talks will last for three days from July 18-20, a message received here today said.

A delegation comprising representatives of the Board of Investment (BOI), Central Board of Revenue (CBR) and Ministry of Industry and Production led by Joint Secretary Ministry of Commerce Shahid Bashir, has already reached Malaysia.

Early Harvest Program (EHP) under the FTA is likely to be finalized during this round.

Prior to this, Ministry of Commerce had held thorough consultations with public sector as well as private sector stakeholders.

Malaysian delegation to visit Pakistan

Meanwhile, an eleven member Malaysian Parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Raja Rali bin Ngah Talib, will visit Pakistan from July 19-23, 2005.

The delegation is coming to Pakistan on the invitation of the Speaker National Assembly Ch.Amir Hussain.

During the visit the delegation will call on the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker National Assembly and the Chairman Senate, apart from meeting political leaders in the Parliament.

The visiting Speaker will also plant a tree at the Parliament House lawn. The delegation will also visit Lahore and Karachi.
