Pakistan team leaves for TIFA talks

ISLAMABAD : The first meeting of the Pak-US Business Council established under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) signed by Pakistan and the United States of America will be held in Washington on September 28.

According to a press release, a delegation led by Humayun Akhtar Khan, commerce minister, left on Saturday for Washington to attend the meeting. The delegation comprises Tasneem Noorani, secretary commerce, Makhdoom Ali Khan, attorney general of Pakistan, Jehangir Bashar Khan, secretary Board of Investment, Qasim M Niaz, joint secretary and Shahid Bashir, joint secretary (foreign frade), the release said.

It said the agenda of the meeting includes negotiations on Bilateral Investment Treaty and proposals to gain market access for exports of Pakistan to the US market. A number of side events like meetings with Robert Bob Zoellick, United States Trade Representative, the US Chamber of Commerce and the US congressmen are also included in commerce minister’s visit schedule, it added. staff report
