Peru and Mexico take up meetings to close FTA negotiations
Mexico, May 25 (ANDINA) — Peru and Mexico agreed on Tuesday to take up meetings in order to close Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotaitions, said Tuesday Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Martin Perez after holding a meeting with Mexico’s Secretary of Economy Gerardo Ruiz.
Negotiations on Peru-Mexico Economic Cooperation Agreement (ACE) Nº8 began in 2006 but were adjourned due to some market access issues differences in which Peru was looking for better benefits for their products.
“If there are special requirements we will look for adequate mechanisms such as preferential tariffs in certain dates. After 6 meetings both countries are developing negotiations very well,” affirmed the minister after inaugurating the Forum "Peru and Mexico: Investment and Development"
Perez remarked that the date of the next meeting will be determined in the following weeks in Peru.
The minister expressed his optimism to close FTA negotiations by the end of the current year.
