The first round of negotiations for the upcoming Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Peru and Japan will take place from May 25th to 29th in Lima, said Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

"Everything is ready to hold the first round of FTA talks,", said deputy trade minister Eduardo Ferreyros.

However, based on the previous agreements signed by Japan, Peru cannot negotiate all products.

"We usually seek to low the tariff level at zero; however, in this case, we know many products will be excluded from negotiations," said the Minister.

The bilateral FTA negotiations started on April 13th, through a telephone conference between Peruvian President Alan Garcia and Japan’s Prime Minister Taro Aso.
