Peruvian business leader hails conclusion of FTA talks with China

21 November 2008

LIMA, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) — The chief of a leading Peruvian business group on Thursday hailed the conclusion of talks on a free trade agreement (FTA) between Peru and China.

The achievement will have a "multiplier effect" on boosting the trade ties between the two countries, said Caceres Sayan, president of Confiep, a national confederation of private corporations in Peru, Peru’s official Andina news agency reported.

The deal is expected to boost Peru’s exports to China, he said.

"Without any doubt the fact that you finish the negotiations with China ...amid a global crisis will have an incredible international influence," Sayan was quoted as saying.

"We all hope that it will have a multiplier effect in boosting negotiations with other countries," he said.

China and Peru wrapped up their negotiations on an FTA on Wednesday.
