SEOUL (XFN-ASIA) — The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) said that its members will launch a general strike tomorrow to pressure the government to halt free-trade talks with the US.
’Unless the government accepts our demand, we will go on a general strike tomorrow for an unlimited time period,’ KCTU president Jo Jun-Ho told reporters.
Union members of carmakers, including Hyundai Motor Co and Kia Motors Corp, along with cargo workers and farmers, will join the nationwide action, he said.
He said union members will undertake a variety of actions, including full-fledged work stoppages and partial strikes.
’The current government is taking a policy direction that aggravates the polarization between the rich and the poor. We can’t follow such a way,’ he said.
