UAE, US to resume FTA talks next month

ABU DHABI - The UAE and the United States will resume their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks in Abu Dhabi on May 9, it was revealed here yesterday.
The upcoming round of talks will discuss a number of outstanding issues with emphasis on investments and related services, said Dr. Mohammed Khalfan bin Kharbash, Minister of State for Financial and Industrial Affairs and Head of the UAE negotiating team.
The minister added that the resumption of the talks was agreed between Robert Portman, US Trade Representative and Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy during the latter’s visit to Washington in March.
Dr Kharbash further revealed that negotiations have reached an advanced stage. The teams have already discussed the provisions of the agreement and its annexes and also exchanged views on trade and investment climates in the two countries, said Kharbash.
