Working together for an ambitious EU-India trade and investment agreement

Push for an ambitious EU-India trade and investment agreement

At a meeting in Bangalore, India on 17 January, BUSINESSEUROPE and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) adopted a joint statement supporting the rapid launch of the negotiations of an ambitious EU-India trade and investment agreement. EU and Indian business support a broad coverage including liberalisation of trade in goods, services, investment and protection of intellectual property rights. They remain committed to provide meaningful inputs for ensuring a win-win conclusion to the negotiations. CII and BUSINESSEUROPE also hope that bilateral negotiations will improve cooperation at the WTO DDA negotiations.

BUSINESSEUROPE Secretary General Philippe de Buck visited India to participate as a guest speaker at the CII Partnership Summit. That event was attended by high-level international political participants including Portuguese President Cavaco Silva, UK Chancellor of Exchequer Gordon Brown and WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy.
