"Australia’s own cyber protection efforts may need to be fortified if the allegations against the Chinese are valid".

This is correct. But although US hacking is touched on in the article, it’s ignored in this and other similar paragraphs. At the moment, we’re more at risk from the US than from China. Why? Because the US is better at hacking. The ’friendly’ links we have with the US also provide avenues for abuse of the relationship. Australian governments of either persuasion place an enormous amount of trust in the US. It’s naïve and foolhardy.

We need to be alert if the EU/India fta is going to be revived, as the implications are potentially devastating for EU workers, and with hugely negative effects for Indian people outside of the transnational business elite.

Will it be easier for Canadian distributors to import Candy (lollipops and gummies) following the signing of this agreement?
It would be nice. Also for Canadian Candy manufacturers, will they have easier access to the Korean market?
    Let me know!

" ..France’s Valley of Muenster.." You see already where it goes wrong. Muenster (more correctly spelled Münster) is a major city in Germany. Just primary school stuff, in Europe that is..

there can be no excuse for a government that is by, for and of the people to hide the text of a national agreement that is supposed to improve their lot.

Since only taxpayer/citizens are/will be the non benefiting, financial liable but non participating (public) group, we should relinquish these penalizing responsibilities to the corporate entities that are signatory and financially beneficiaries of NAFTA (and CETA, TPP). To do otherwise, given the illegal prototype ISDS (existing as a trial balloon in NAFTA) by which taxpayers were setup to be gamed as a money source for any falsely determined action deemed to benefit the domestic environment/economy.
To date, through no legal fault as a sovereign nation, Canadian taxpayer have been forced and duped into being penalized for any legislated environmental and domestic economic policy (legal as they were sanctified thru parliamentary processes). Under historical basis of contract law, no agreement can be deemed legal that directs all penalties to only one party (taxpayers) and be in anyway considered to have standing. Withdrawal under these constitutional norms is to be expected.

It’s really a devastating blow on the west African sovereignty. From my on point of view, this is the 21st century form of colonization . It’s a shame on our political leaders. I kindly ask organizations like EJN and others to continue to fight for our continent.

I am hoping you can clear up a contentious set of questions in regards to the legality of the ISDS on how it can effectively dictate only one source for monetary compensation for claimed wrongful profit interference. My understanding of contract/agreement law is that parties directly affected, especially in a financial way cannot be excluded or refused access knowledge of the factual details of any agreement, even one signed by a representative third party. In other words it contravenes every known basis for recognized legal standing as to what defines a binding contract. How can two parties sign an agreement binding a third party for all onus when this party is refused details of their future obligations and are blind to understand how they could conceivably prevent claims of wrongdoing that lead to lawsuits for profit compensation? As well no contract is deemed legal if negotiated on the basis that it requires the exclusion of a third party through the subterfuge of secrecy and/or misinformation, in order to guarantee said agreement. In order to override local, regional and federal governmental laws and regulations that are based on a specific countries Constitution, would not these outside parties have to outline in the agreement their justification and right to erase all legal recognition of the formation and function as a country? So just how does a country loss all its power that is based on a Constitution and a long history of established law when its protected body—the Supreme Court has not been used or allowed to prevent being circumvented? Is this not, for want of better wording, an economic coup d’ etat? Are not the leaders of these countries that signed these agreements contravening their Constitutional oath of office? Please help by clarifying any points I may not be aware of or are ill-informed about? Thank you for your time and efforts. Take care.

    Sincerely,

    Margaret Beresford
