I think it is silly and disingenuous to describe Colombia as being aggressive towards its neighbours. The incursion into Ecuador was clearly for the purpose of attacking FARC rebels who were illegally hiding just across the border, in Ecuador (or were they there with Ecuador’s approval?). There was obviously no intent to attack Ecuador or its citizens, or to occupy any Ecuadoran territory. The government of Colombia has never threatened its neighbours in any way.

FARC is attempting to overthrow the Colombian government by violence. They have no support in Colombia. They are holding hundreds of Colombian citizens hostage under very cruel conditions, they destroy infrastructure, they plant LANDMINES, extort businesses, kill people who don’t cooperate, etc etc. The Colombian president, on the other hand, is very popular in Colombia.

So what is Colombia to do? Allow the FARC to run across the border and hide and plan attacks against Colombia?. The Ecuadoran and Venezuelan governments have not been cooperative in controlling illegal incursions into their territory by FARC and there is some evidence that Ecuador and Venezuela may have been actively helping the FARC. (the evidence of this is certainly not conclusive, yet, but it is at least as strong as any evidence supporting your assertion that Uribe supports paramilitary violence).

    Yes it is.
As we know that price of fossile fuel is increasing day by day. So we needs to think abt the alternative energy fuels. In concern of sustainablility of biofuel, the answer is that their is an critical need to first research on the biofuel than move to fields.

This is a remarkably one-sided article. The fears of a complete penetration of the Korean economy are impressive in their portent, but what about the penetration of the American market by Korean goods over the past several decades? Samsung, Kia, Hyundai, LG, these are household names in America. Shipbuilding, steel, electronics, chemicals, autos, appliances, textiles; these are all Korean exports that have sold hundreds of billions of dollars of value to the US over the last several decades.

I have lived in Korea for about a decade. Here, the highly protected conglomerates have an absolute death lock on all the major value added retail goods that are sold to this nation’s market. The punishing tariffs applied to a vast array of foreign goods have effectively blocked most vendors of the abovementioned goods to this economy, which is now the 12th or so largest on earth. The gov’t very recently had a nice trick of performing a tax audit on anyone who bought a foreign car. Black marketing of foreign goods that come in through the military is rampant, because these common, everyday goods are simply NOT to be found in normal retail outlets. Foreigners who live here are afraid to buy a foreign car because it is nearly impossible to get parts here if you have a breakdown. Ditto electronics, appliances.

The anti- US beef scare currently raging here offers an excellent object lesson to anyone who wants to seriously look at how import / export in Korea REALLY works. Scaremongering with no scientific basis was run through all the major media outlets by the opposition who will do anything to protect local industries from any foreign competition. Koreans who can’t read English have bought into a series of baldfaced and outrageous lies about the American beef industry, including that Americans are dying in large numbers of mad cow disease, that the USA will deliberately sell only old, bad quality beef to Korea in an effort to cause harm to Korea’s well being; there were video clips of staggering cows played again and again in the television media. The cows were said to be mad cow inflicted and coming to Korea; it turned out that they were "downer" cows and that they were not headed to the Korean market.

I could go on and on. RETHINK the bias of your articles and look at both sides of an issue or continue to be a joke.

Thank you for your concern about Tinubu. I’d rather be concerned about the indigenes. If the government is sincere, there’s no need for eviction. How about incorporating the indigenes into the scheme? Talk of employment opportunities! It is sad that a yoruba government which is supposed to be enlightened could consider displacing indigenes. May God have mercy!!!

This is just so much more than about American beef import.

If you guys have watched the footage released by Humane Society, you wouldn’t argue on how inappropriately the cattle are raised in the U.S. It is quite obvious that the inspection system in the U.S., if any, obviously falls short of ’adequate’. No wonder so many countries are NOT importing the beef - of cattle older than 30 months - from the U.S.

However, these protests are much more than "we don’t wanna eat (unhealthy) American beef!!!"

As usual, this "unilaterally beneficial" deal was quickly made behind the door, and when we, Korean people, found out what the president, who entered the office only about 3 months ago, has done, we were outraged. Not surprisingly, the core issues regarding the beef import! and, more import!antly, danger of mad cow disease are hardly mentioned by the media. It seems like the Korean government is repeating the same message - that, it’s OK - as the British government did before the mad cow disease began to terrify the whole country, resulting in 163 victims since the mid 80s’.

There have been a number of mass candlelight protests across the country against the deal with the U.S. The government is not only preventing media from paying attention to our voice but also calling on the police to keep an eye on the public movements, even threatening that those who participate in the protests will face ’legal consequences.’ "Commies," the leftist are leading the crowd, according to the government, and they argue there is a political demagogue behind the public dissent. It seems only logical to conclude that we need to take harder action against the government, because there are just way too many problems with them for us to fight against. And naturally, the public backlash is only escalating.

Even more urgent, genetically modified corns were already shipped to this country and are reportedly going on sale from next month, here in Korea. I recently learned the GMO was even rejected by African countries when it was offered as aid.

This incredibly overt neoliberal president Myung-bak Lee (shortly called MB) , former CEO, and his administration are doing everything they can to turn this country into hyper-capitalist state in such a short amount of time.

    They are planning to:
    1. privatize the health care system - going for "the American style." Unbelievable.
    2. privatize the water/electricity/gas supply, postal service, .
    3. privatize other state-owned enterprises including the Seoul Metro, public bank(the Korea Development Bank) and other institutions in which public funds are invested.
Daewoo Ship-building & Marine Engineering - which produces submarines, destroyers, battle ships, submarine rescue vessels, AUV,
and other specialty vessels - is one of them; and it is going to be sold via Goldman Sachs Korea - in which the president’s nephew has
been lately hired as the chairman - to a private corporation or, possibly, to "China." Obviously, this is going to be an enormous threat
    to national security.
    4. make a huge canal across the country - which, even before the last presidential election, was highly controversial and severely
criticized by intellectuals, environmentalists and the public, etc, for its environmental and even economic risks.
    5. erase the "Japanese colony era" from textbooks, claiming we must forgive them and get over the past. As you might know, there still are a number of issues left unsolved about the historical tragedy, such as the ’comfort women’ issue. The president was born in Osaka, Japan.

All these news came out within 3 months.

    Words fail me.

In the recent visit to the U.S., the president said, in front of the audience consisting of the government officials and businesspeople, that he is "a business-friendly person, and (even though some people criticize him for being too business-friendly) wants to be more business-friendly," and, even more outrageously, that ’he’s the CEO of Korea. Inc." The applause, to me, resonated as the beginning of disaster. The upcoming negotiation on FTA with the U.S. is going to enslave ’Korea. Inc’ and the citizens to the hands of multi-national corporations.

Our hard-earned democracy is in danger.

The whole country is at stake.
