by Elene Dobordjginidze

Georgia and the Republic of Korea conducted the fifth round of negotiations on the draft Agreement on Bilateral Promotion and Protection of Investments. Georgian Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genady Arveladze, led the Georgian delegation during the talks.

Arveladze highlighted that the agreement aims to strengthen economic cooperation with South Korea and encourage increased investments.

“The Republic of Korea is one of our key investor countries, with substantial potential for attracting further investments. This agreement will establish a solid legal framework and serve as a clear signal and additional incentive for Korean investors to consider Georgia as a prime destination for future investments,” he stated.

The Georgian negotiating team included representatives from the Ministries of Economy, Justice, and Finance.

The draft agreement outlines mechanisms for protecting investments and investors, as well as procedures for resolving disputes should they arise. These provisions are crucial for fostering a conducive environment for investment activities and deepening economic ties.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in South Korea.
