Cancel the Canada-Israel free trade agreement
On top of its genocide in Gaza, Israel is moving closer to officially annexing the occupied West Bank — a blatant violation of international law that will further entrench apartheid and destroy hopes for Palestinian self-determination. Instead of resisting these ongoing crimes, Canada’s trade policy has enabled and rewarded them. The Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) treats Palestinian land as though it were “Israeli,” rewarding illegal settlements and giving cover to Israel’s ceaseless colonial expansion.
Prime Minister Carney has pledged to recognize the State of Palestine — but recognition is meaningless if Canada’s trade deal treats Palestinian land as “Israeli.” It’s time to fix this incoherent and damaging policy.
