Correa Warns on Dangers of FTA with US

Quito, Dec 16 2007 (Prensa Latina) — Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said that the Free Trade Agreements (FTA) are tremendously danger and a problem for our countries.

"I completely agree in this matter with Joseph Stiglitz, 2001 Nobel prizewinner in Economy," Correa stated in his Saturday radio program.

The statesman pointed out that "when you are told to negotiate a FTA, the US team does not say go and negotiate a fair FTA, it says to bring what is more advisable for our interests."

"It is good to listen from a US Nobel prizewinner in Economy that the FTA only seeks the benefit of that northern country," Correa said.

The head of State discarded a change of globalization while the US largest monopolies are the most to benefit from an FTA.

"While the losers are the weakest ones and the winner the strongest there is no change," he stressed.

My hypothesis is that globalization will last, while lasting benefits for United States," Correa reiterated.
