Mexico Farmers Sow NAFTA Dissent

Mexico, Jan 21 2008 (Prensa Latina) — The Mexican farmers heading to the capital in rejection of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) are growing along their way.

The demonstrators recently received the support of the mayors and social groups in four municipalities of Chihuahua state, who endorsed the proclamation of the Farmer Resistance Movement.

The signed document demands a revision of NAFTA, and backs the caravan, which will end in the capital after covering 1243 miles .

The march has been also welcomed in the municipalities of Delicias, Meoqui, Saucillo, La Cruz. Conchos, Camargo, and Jimenez, in the central and southern regions of the country, which are very important for the agricultural sector.

Deputy Victor Quintana informed that producers from other states have decided to hold parallel mobilizations, especially in Tlaxcala, Morelos, and Michoacan, to join the demonstration.
