Progress in CEPA Talks with India

2 August 2008

Korean negotiators say talks with Indian officials to strike a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement produced considerable progress.

The eleventh round of talks on the agreement was held in New Delhi from Tuesday to Friday.

Foreign Ministry’s free trade agreement director and chief delegate to the talks Choi Kyung-lim cited overall progress, saying about half of the remaining issues have been resolved in the latest talks.

He said the biggest achievement was in discussions on opening India’s industrial goods market and Korea’s services market.

He expects most of the remaining issues to be hammered out at the 12th round of talks in Seoul next month and expects an agreement by the year’s end.
