Peru to start negotiations to join the P4 trade agreement in March 2010

Lima, Jan. 26 (ANDINA).— In March, Peru will start negotiations to join the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPPA), previously known as P4, announced Peru Deputy Trade Minister, Eduardo Ferreyros.

We should expect New Zealand, Chile, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam -founding members- to be at the TPP table alongside the US, Australia and Vietnam, which have also expressed interest in joining the group.

He recalled that Peru, the US and Australia expressed formal interest in joining the P4 during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2008 held in Peru.

These countries urged to join the agreement and resume negotiations to implement an APEC-wide Free Trade Agreement.

Vietnam also expressed formal interest in joining the P4 and, just after that, countries agreed to hold in March the first round of negotiations to expand the TPP to include other countries in the bloc.
