Kirk: Korea-US FTA Renegotiations Will Only Focus on Beef and Auto

8 August 2010

United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk says it is unlikely that other clauses will be included when bilateral talks are held to address Washington’s concerns on beef and auto regarding the Korea-US free trade agreement.

The latest remark follows requests by the Congressional Textile Caucus to include the present trade clause governing apparel and clothing when negotiations are held to revisit the trade deal which was signed back in 2007.
According to Kirk, the government will pay close attention to everyone’s opinions but given the short amount of time it is impossible to renegotiate every clause.

Kirk also added that he is greatly motivated to make the necessary adjustments to the current trade agreement as he has been ordered to do so by US President Barack Obama before his visit to Seoul in November.
