Peru, Mexico to close FTA negotiations within next two months

Bogota, Aug. 18 (ANDINA). Peru and Mexico administrations plan to close FTA negotiations within next two months, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Martin Perez reported.

Negotiations to deepen Economic Cooperation Agreement (ACE) Nº8 between Peru and Mexico started in 2006 but stalled because of the market access issue; Peru is looking for a better deal to export its products.

“Negotiations stalled about two years ago and now the two sides are interested of in resuming negotiations,” the minister added.

Perez recalled that, as part of Expo Peru fair hedl in Mexico, he met with Mexican government officials and agreed to resume negotiations.

The minister in turn forecasted that negotiations with Japan could be closed before APEC summit in November.

Perez said Peru is very confident about reaching FTA with Japan and predicted to close deals in September.
