Lima, Nov. 10 (ANDINA). The First Round of FTA Negotiations between Peru and Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Panama) started on November 8th and runs until Friday in Lima, Peru’s Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) reported Wednesday.

In August, presidents Ricardo Martinelli of Panama and Alan Garcia of Peru signed a joint declaration in which they expressed the commitment of their governments to develop a negotiation framework for a free trade agreement, which promotes a real access as well as market opportunities for goods, services and investments between the countries involved.

Subsequently, Peru began talks with Costa Rica and Honduras, which showed deep interest in starting FTA negotiations with our country.

Finally, Guatemala and El Salvador also joined this initiative.

First round negotiations cover issues including market access for goods, rules of origin, technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures and public purchases.
