Senate archives Chief calls Senators ’liars’

4 July 2011

A section chief at the Senate accused lawmakers who signed the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) of being “big liars” and betraying public trust as she revealed that contrary to the interest and safety of the Filipinos, toxic and nuclear wastes from Japan will be brought into the country.

In a recent speaking engagement, Theresa S. Bondoc of the Archives Office of the Senate said the pro-JPEPA senators virtually “sold” the country to Japan. She said she has documents to prove it because she is the record keeper of the Senate.

Senators who supported the JPEPA maintained there is no provision in the pact that violates the Constitution.

According to the lawmakers, there is nothing in the agreement that would allow toxic and nuclear wastes from Japan to enter the Philippines as this would run counter to RA 6969 or the Toxic Substances, Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act.

Using her argument, Bondoc has been seeking monetary contributions to finance her crusade against the Bulacan sanitary landfill. The crusade, however, was recently dismissed in news reports as a scam.

Earlier, Bondoc called on overseas Filipino workers to support her other crusade, calling for the non-implementation of RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 in Bulacan.

Bondoc’s husband Wilfredo, a barangay captain in Bulacan, is in hot water after former chairman Louise Anne P. Trinidad filed cases of malversation, misappropriation, illegal use of public funds, falsification by public officer, grave misconduct and violation of Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act against the barangay chief before the Office of the Ombudsman.

As this developed, the Citizens Battle Against Corruption (Cibac) in Bulacan is contemplating filing administrative cases against Theresa for conflict of interest emanating from her status as a Senate employee and a crusader against laws passed by the Senate.
