Tymoshenko Calling On EU Leaders To Prevent Disruption Of Ukraine-EU Association Agreement

25 July 2011

Yulia Tymoshenko, former prime minister, leader of the All-Ukrainian Association Batkivschyna, is calling on EU leaders to prevent disruption of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

Tymoshenko has said this to the press outside Kyiv’s Pechersk district court.

"I urge you not to connect opposition to political repressions in Ukraine with signing the agreements on association and free trade area, under not event," she said.

Tymoshenko called on the European leaders to sign the association agreement, even if Ukraine does not meet the requirements set as it will carry on fight against corruption and development of the country. Speaking about a desire to sign the agreement President Viktor Yanukovych does not really want it, she stressed.

His aggressive actions against the opposition will seek to prevent the ratification of the agreement after signing.

As Ukrainian News reported, the Ukrainian experts admit that the European Union member states will not ratify the EU - Ukraine Association Agreement in case of any violations in Tymoshenko case.

Earlier members of diplomatic missions of the EU member states said proceedings against opposition politicians would not affect the negotiations on the association agreement, but could waive its ratification in national parliaments.
