Peru to sign FTA with Guatemala on Tuesday after Pacific Alliance Summit

Lima, Dec. 02 (ANDINA). Peru and Guatemala will sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on Tuesday, December 6 in a ceremony which will count with the participation of Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Jose Luis Silva.

According to a supreme ordinance, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) will travel to the city of Merida (Mexico) to take part in the Second Summit of the Pacific Alliance on December 4.

Afterwards, Minister Silva will travel to the Guatemala to sign the trade agreement with said country.

On October 13, Peru and Guatemala reached an understanding and concluded the negotiations for Free Trade Agreement between both countries.

94.7 percent of Peruvian exports will enter Guatemala duty free for a maximum of five years, while, 81.4 percent of imports from Guatemala will be exempted on taxes in five years or less, when FTA comes into effect.

Peruvian export products like fish and canned fish, garlics, asparagus, olives, artichokes, grapes, tangerines, mangos, giant maize of Cusco, purple corn, cookies, chocolates, pisco, insecticides, detergents, garments, among others, will have duty-free access to the Guatemalan market once this agreement comes into force.
