Iran is likely to offer Bangladeshi doctors, engineers and professionals jobs in their country.

Iran has already prepared a list of 150 exportable products of Bangladesh, which it will import through negotiations.

Iranian Commerce Minister Shariatmadari said this to journalists after arrival at the Zia International Airport on his three-day official visit here yesterday.

A bilateral trade agreement between Bangladesh and Iran is likely to be signed today.

Shariatmadari, who is leading a seven-member Iranian delegation, and Bangladesh Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, are expected to sign the agreement on behalf of their countries.

Other members of the delegation are—Director General, Foreign Trade (Asia and Oceania) of Iran, Parviz Rezaee, Director General of Ministerial office, Commerce Ministry, Sarrafi Aghdam, Head of Protocol Department Ismaeel Seyyedi, representatives from Foreign and Commerce Ministry of Iran Omidbakhsh, Mohammad Reza Rezaee Ziarani, Mohsen Ebrahimi Shad and Niloofar Lavaee.

Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury along with high officials of the Commerce Ministry received the Iranian Minister and delegation members at the airport.

The Iranian Commerce Minister said his country would also consider giving some Bangladeshi products duty-free access to Iran, but it will discuss this issue prior to signing the bilateral agreement on trade.

He said they received a list containing 150 Bangladeshi products and Iran wants to import those on the basis of mutual understanding, but he did not disclose how many products would be imported from Bangladesh.

He said they hope to settle some important issues relating to trade and business promotion including finalization of the Bangladesh-Iran Bilateral Trade Agreement and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

Shariatmadari said the issues have already been discussed at the relevant expert level and the documents were also exchanged between the two governments.

Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury informed journalists that an agreement is going to be signed today with Iran to give a boost to the bilateral trade relations.

Through signing the agreement, Bangladeshi products would be allowed access to some CIS coountries like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Altaf said.

According to Commerce Minister, Bangladesh would strongly move for getting duty-free access of some Bangladeshi products to Iran, and will request Iran to at least offer reduced duty on some Bangladeshi goods.

He said the Iranian government would also be requested to remove trade barriers so that Bangladeshi products could easily enter the Iranian market.

According to the Commerce Ministry, Bangladesh wants to export non-conventional items to Iran.
