Peru’s agricultural sector to benefit from FTA with India

31 January 2012

Lima, Jan. 31 (ANDINA). Peru’s agricultural sector would take advantage of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to be signed with India, one of the fastest growing countries in the world.

At the present, this sector faces high costs when entering this country as the tariff assigned is 31.8%, higher than other areas, agraria.pe reported.

In this regard, this trade pact could be very positive for the country, as it would allow Peruvian products to enter the Indian market more easily.

It’s worth mentioning that non-traditional products have been showing a major expansion in recent years.

According to the Peru’s Ministry of Agriculture (Minag), the agricultural exports to India have increased 23.8 percent between January and November, 2011, totaling US$3.5 million.
