Singapore, Vietnam shows interest in enhancing ties with India

Guwahati, Sep 6 (PTI) Singapore and Vietnam today showed keen interest in enhancing trade ties with India in view of the immense opportunities for investors here.

Singapore Deputy High Commissioner Lee Lorling speaking at a conference here, organised by the CII, said that the opportunities for bilateral trade increased with the signing of a recent agreement between the two countries.

Speaking at the conference on `India-ASEAN : Building Bridges’ Lee said there were immense opportunities in Singapore for Indian investors.

She also lauded the efforts of the Confederation of Indian Industries in taking the initiative to implement the Look East policy of the Indian government.

Vietnam Embassy Councellor To Ngoc Thach spoke on his country’s new trade policy which gave special focus to countries such as India, China, Russia and the EU.

Observing that new initiatives were also being taken to enhance trade with east Asian and Asia Pacific countries, Thach said, the North East Region on account of its proximity to the South East Asian countries should make all efforts to improve trade ties with the SE countries.

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi speaking on the occasion identified tea, tourism, food processing, medicinal plants and floriculture as some of the thrust areas for growth for enhancing trade between the North East Region and SE nations. PTI
