Tuvalu to sign regional trade deal

The consultation involved national and local government personnel, private sector representatives and others, who have formed a taskforce to monitor Tuvalu’s mandate once it ratifies PACER-Plus.

According to the government, potential challenges of the agreement were discussed with the help of trade experts from the Pacific Forum Secretariat.

Iit says ultimately, stakeholders deemed the trade deal an important opportunity that Tuvalu should explore.

The government says PACER can help Tuvalu towards accomplishing its national priorities, such as utilising opportunities that address the island country’s vulnerability to climate change.

Prime Minister Enele Sosene Sopoaga is to sign the agreement on 14 June in Tonga, subject to endorsement by Tuvalu’s parliament.
