Anti-FTA Faction to Launch Cyber Attack on U.S.

The IT labor union, part of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, has announced its plans to paralyze the homepages of the U.S. Department of Defense, the Whitehouse and President George Bush, by sending a flood of some 30,000 e-mails at 6pm on Tuesday.

The IT union said on Monday, "We decided to take this action with the intentions of blocking the resolution of an FTA between Korea and the U.S.," adding, "In this cyber battle, a minimum of 10,000 individuals will participate." The union also announced they will stage a cyber protest against President Roh Moo-hyun and the Environment & Labor Committee of the National Assembly at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The e-mail that will be sent to U.S. President reads, “Do you know how unbelievably absurd your demands that follow the lopsided guidelines of negotiations on an FTA between Korea and the U.S. are? We are aware that the Korean government has been manipulated by the U.S. government and has therefore been adhering to U.S. foreign policy. However, the majority of Koreans are resisting the Americanization of Korea in the name of globalization.”
