Vietnamese, Japanese governments sign scientific co-operation agreement

A framework agreement on scientific and technological co-operation between Vietnam and Japan was signed in Hanoi on August 21.

The agreement signed between the two governments will facilitate exchanges of information and scientists and technicians providing training to improve professional skills and the protection of intellectual property rights.

Under the agreement, each side will ensure favourable conditions for individuals and units from both private and public sectors to join co-operative activities.

Scientific and technological co-operation between Vietnam and Japan has flourished in recent years. Apart from granting hundreds of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for Vietnamese students each year, Japan has also supported Vietnam in a number of projects aimed at modernising its intellectual property system, developing atomic electricity and radiation safety, as well as medical and food processing research.

Prominent projects have included a plan to modernise a management system for industrial property, a project to build an information technology training institute at the Hanoi National University and a scheme to build an information technology engineers testing centre in accordance with Japanese and regional standards.
