Bolivia Social Forum to Condemn FTA

Cochabamba, Bolivia, Nov 15 2006 (Prensa Latina) — The Social Summit for the People’s Integration, to be held December in that city, will condemn Washington-encouraged free trade agreements, members of the organizing committee informed.

The meeting, to be held parallel to the South American Chiefs of State’s Summit, will give continuity to the Continental Social Alliance movement and the campaign against the Free Trade Area of the Americas, according to Magaly Urquidi.

The Social Summit, sponsored by Bolivian trade union and farmer organizations, will also reject neoliberal policies, foreign debt and militarization, she added.

As many as 1,500 delegates from the continent are expected to attend the forum, and draw up proposals on 14 items that will be taken to the second South American Summit of Nations, Urquidi told Prensa Latina.

Migration and citizenship, environment, justice and impunity, agriculture, food sovereignty, problems of indigenous peoples, and US militarization will be some of the issues of highest interest at the forum.
