FMLN Renegotiates FTA

San Salvador, Mar 4 (Prensa Latina) — The Salvadorian Farabundo Marti Front for National Liberation (FMLN) seeks on Sunday an alliance to renegotiate the Free Trade Agreement with United States and a political reform for the 2009 elections.

In addition of revising the accord with Washington, applied for a year, FMLN members seek to purge the electoral register, separate the National Register of Natural Peoples from the Executive and reorganize the Electoral Supreme Court, among others.

With a view to the electoral campaign, prior to the 2009 polls, they also demand the propaganda regulation, supervise the parties’ funds, local and abroad vote, "Colatino" daily reported.

FMLN deputy Walter Duran announced joint efforts with the Forum for the Defense of the Constitution and the Pro- Election Reform Movement, and invited other social organizations to fight for the political reform.

Only a year of being implemented, that agreement damaged the agricultural sector, small and middle companies, disarticulate productivity even more and increased trade deficit for a rise in imports, compared to exports, they stated.

In turn, FMLN leaders determined to carry out a common effort with other regional progressive parties that reject the agreement.
