    Dear Sir,

Indian Agriculturalists, Oil producers loby, Tea and Rubber Planters loby are doing more harm than good to Indian Economy.

Millions of Indians are being deprived of fresh vegetabls and fruits at cheaper rates, there is lots to be learnt from making a Free trade Pact work with Asean members.

It is notable to remember that Thailand was much below India about 30 years from now, and is growing steadily, while India is stagnating.

We should also remember that India needs to send its millions abroad to earn their lively hood, which can be possible if services are opened up after the trade pact????????

Polititians loose nothing, it is only the common people who loose every thing by not opening up the trade wqith Aseans.

A wonderful decision on the part of PAFTA. Let’s hope Egypt’s road building project provides an ancillary portal of commerce with Palestine and Isreal.

    1. The proposed TIFA provision on labour issues shall entitle Bangladesh to comply only with its domestic laws on the respective labour issues and its ILO obligation. This obligation is applicable irrespective of whether Bangladesh is a party of TIFA or not. Moreover without TIFA US will be free to impose its own labour laws on imports from Bangladesh as is the case now in the export processing zones.]

    2. Under the WTO agreement, the LDCs, have the luxury of not implementing the TRIPS obligations until the end of 2013, not 2016 as reported, with the provision of extensions until required compliance capacities are developed and also patenting of plants, plant varieties and animals are optional. Besides, in the TRIPS agreement, there is nothing on the patenting of biotechnological innovations. On the other hand under TIFA terms Bangladesh will be able to promote its offensive interests in areas of transfer of technology, compulsory licensing, GI protection and technical assistance for capacity building under the terms of the TRIPS Agreement which the US need to comply as an obligation under WTO.]

This in general is the weakness of Europe and its societies: a general disdain of people and as
a result belief that there is no need to consult people because they know nothing and have
no value. Where other organisations like the World Bank and the Asian Development have
improved their processes Europe is still a continuing on the road of arrogant colonial
master. Of course WTO is marching on similarly.

A better title for this article would have been: "NGOs remain sceptical about EU’s vow not to push Africa into EPAs".

Although it is interesting to see that the Commission finds itself indeed more and more compelled to state that it will not put pressure on the ACP countries; there has always been a gap between what the Commission says and does.

The fact that the Commission always keeps coming back (= "stalking") with its proposals to negotiate services, investments, intellectual property rights, competition and government procurement; and does not seem to be willing to take "no" as an answer, already puts a lot of pressure on aid dependend countries that do not want to jeopardise their relations with Europe.
This is why on StopEPA Day, more than 80 organistions in 30 countries in Europe, Africa and the Pacific said that "the European approach to EPAs remains unacceptable and must be turned around". See: http://www.epawatch.eu

The statement by the EU Commission to which the IPS article refers can be found here:

Re: David K.: the article cleary states that farmers in the CACM were hurt badly by U.S. subsidies on agricultural products and competing with major agro-exporting companies that had far larger resources and greater advantages over small farmers (which make up 80% of Nicarauguan agriculture). Furthermore, Central Americans are more than just consumers. They are people first and formost, who have been hurt by lower labour standards and a "race to the bottom".

Why is this company doing It’s million dollar business in Argentina? Obviously they where passed concessions by the very corrupt government of Carlos Menem, who is the one responsible for making Argentina a smaller and poorer country.

Argentina used to have it’s OWN Natural Gas and Oil company and was SELF SUFFICIENT, now we have to pay in Dollars to an super powerful and rich American company so that they can provide the same if not worst service??

This is just but another case of the very powerful and rich’s explotation of millions of poor people.

    Thanks,

It is easy to talk about a country problem when you are outside. Only when you live in Colombia for long time, you can understand how it works. Most of the people in Colombia like actual government; that’s why Uribe got popularity over 80%. The Rebels and The union people know how to persuade some people and they know how to cover all bad things that they have done, so It’s easy from outside to judge the government and to support Rebels ideas. Although Canadian people don’t want the FTA with Colombia, we know it is a good way to go on with our lives because the people that really want to take this Country ahead are going to have more opportunities to work. So, please, not only think on those people that belong to "Guerrilla" or "Union groups", think on people who everyday weak up in the morning to work in a company that, If you close this door, soon it’s going to get lay off, because we don’t have enough market to sell our products. And for sure.. We are majority. Thanks.

derecho a cultivar. La erradicación produjo frecuentemente enfrentamientos
entre los campesinos y las fuerzas estatales.
